2 Women Killed In Riverside Crash

The two women killed when an SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and then hit a compact car in west Riverside have been publicly identified.

Patricia Romero, 63, and Sharlene Ayala, 19, both from Riverside, were fatally injured in the crash Friday May 15, 2020.  The crash occurred on Central Avenue, near Montclair Drive.

Riverside police Sgt. Ryan Wilson reported that a 28-year-old driver of a Jeep SUV was heading west on Central around 12:30 p.m. when the Jeep drifted into opposing traffic and into the path of Ayala’s Toyota Corolla.

According to Wilson the two vehicles collided, killing the young woman instantly.  Romero, Ayala’s passenger, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where she died to her injuries roughly an hour later.

The driver of the Jeep, whose name is being withheld, sustained minor injuries. He has not been arrested, but Sgt. Wilson stated that the investigation is ongoing.
